RVmagnetics and Testia Kick Off ESA-Funded Project PRETA MICOMSS to Advance Structural Health Monitoring in Aerospace

Košice, Bratislava 30th April 2026 - RVmagnetics and Testia, an Airbus Company, are proud to announce the official kickoff of its latest European Space Agency ESA-funded project, PRETA MICOMSS - Pressurised Tanks MicroWire Integrated Composite Mechanical Stress Sensor. The 14-month initiative marks an important step forward in the development of advanced sensing technologies for next-generation aerospace applications.

The PRETA MICOMSS project is focused on exploring the possibility to integrate MicroWire-based sensors into pressurised composite tanks monitoring systems, key structural components widely used in space systems. By embedding sensing capabilities within the material itself, the project aims to enable effective real-time monitoring of mechanical stress and structural integrity throughout the entire lifecycle of the component.

This approach addresses a growing need within the aerospace sector for lightweight, reliable, and intelligent structures. As mission requirements become more demanding, the integration of MicroWire sensors offers a pathway toward more robust structural health monitoring (SHM), supporting improved safety margins and optimized system design.

The project is led by Pavol Lipovský, Tech Lead at RVmagnetics together with a dedicated multidisciplinary team. Their combined expertise in advanced materials, embedded sensing, and aerospace applications will drive the technical development and validation of the solution.

“We see embedded sensing as a key enabler for the next generation of aerospace structures,” said Pavol Lipovský. “By integrating MicroWire technology directly into composite materials, we can provide continuous insight into materials in ways that were not previously possible.”

Collaboration with ESA underscores the strategic importance of this work and highlights RVmagnetics’ growing role in the European space innovation ecosystem. The project aims on contributing to advancing technologies that support safer, more efficient, and longer-lasting space systems.

RVmagnetics looks forward to sharing updates and insights as the PRETA MICOMSS project progresses.
