Definition of ROI (return on investment)

Return on investment, or ROI, is a profitability ratio commonly used to measure the amount of return, or profit, an investment generates relative to its costs. ROI is expressed as a percentage and extremely important when considering individual or competing investment opportunities.

In the R&D - the Return on Research Capital is the amount of profit earned for each euro invested in research and development over a period of time (a year).
